Charles R. Smith

Charles R. Smith, 76, of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, November 23, 2017, at Aspen Rehab & Health Center, Silvis.

A gathering to celebrate Chuck’s life will be 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017, at John’s Lutheran Church, East Moline.  Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of the Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Chuck was born August 16, 1941, in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Ernest and Mary Evelyn (Birdsell) Smith.  He married Patricia Ann VanRycke on June 20, 1965, in East Moline.  She died October 8, 2014.

He enjoyed tinkering with anything and everything, whether it needed to be fixed or not.  He also liked watching sports, especially the Denver Broncos.

Chuck is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Theresa and Richard Bodkin of Davenport, Iowa, and Lori and Drew Hopkins of Moline, three grandchildren, two brothers, and one sister.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers, and one sister.
