Delma M. “Dee” Steffen, 85, of Davenport, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at Bettendorf Health Care, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities, and there will be no services. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she was a member.
The former Delma Mae Jugenheimer was born May 14, 1934, in Davenport, the daughter of Fred and Dorothy (Koch) Jugenheimer. She married James Conrad Steffen on December 27, 1953. She earned her teaching certificate and her first teaching job was at a one-room school in Mount Joy, Iowa. She went on to earn her BA and MA and continued teaching at North Scott, and later in Florida. At one point, she was named Teacher of the Year.
She and her husband, Jim, cared for many foster children over the years. Upon moving back to Davenport, Dee became a Master gardener.
Dee is survived by a son, John Steffen of East Moline, Illinois; a daughter, Dorothy (Charles) Shogren of South Carolina; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Wayne (Sandy) Jugenheimer of Arizona, Janet Clark of Maryland, and John (Mary) Jugenheimer of Geneseo, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
