Douglas D. Fellows, 72, of Davenport, Iowa, died Monday, November 13, 2023, at Harmony Davenport.
Graveside services are 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 20, at Rock Island National Cemetery, where Vietnam Veterans of America Quad Cities Chapter #299 will present military honors. Those wishing to attend should meet in the parking lot at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, at 12:45 p.m. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to Mary Fellows for a fund to be established in Doug’s memory.
Douglas Darrell Fellows was born March 10, 1951, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Catherine (Laisle) Fellows. He married the love of his life, Mary (Logas) McWane on June 10, 1988, in Davenport. Previously, he had been married to Penny, with whom he had a daughter, Melissa Powers-Bojorquez, prior to separating.
A dedicated and proud veteran, Douglas served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Following his military service, he found his niche as a butcher at the Rock Island Arsenal commissary. Known for his precision and expertise, he earned the respect of colleagues and customers alike.
Douglas was a man of even temperament, always approaching life with a calm demeanor that endeared him to all who knew him. His kindness was a defining trait, and he treated people with a warmth that left a lasting impression. Whether in the workplace or among friends, Douglas was a pillar of compassion and understanding.
In his leisure time, Douglas found solace and creativity in woodworking. His skilled hands crafted beautiful pieces that reflected his passion and talent. Beyond his craft, he was an avid traveler, sharing adventures with his wife, Mary, particularly relishing their journeys on the open road aboard their motorcycle. His love for motorcycles was not just a hobby; it was a reflection of his adventurous spirit and a source of joy throughout his life.
Doug is survived by his wife, Mary; two step-daughters, Anna Brown of Davenport, and Tracy (Terry) McQuillen of Washington, Illinois; step-grandchildren, Kate and Rachel Brown, Bree (Matt) Gutierrez, and Amanda (Corey) Blank; step-great-grandchildren, Graham and Emery Gutierrez, and Brady and Oliver Blank; and six beloved nieces and nephews, Craig (Kim) Fellows, Scott (Terri) Smiley, Becky (Mike) Mazanec, Todd (Chelle) Smiley, Jackie (Andrew) Guidi, and Jason Fellows. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Richard Fellows, Betty Smiley, and Jack Fellows.
