Gloria D. Dawson, 70, of Davenport, Iowa, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Unity Point Health – Trinity Rock Island, after a short but brave battle with lung cancer.
A memorial service to celebrate Gloria’s life is 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13, at New Life Fellowship, 2345 19th Street Moline, Illinois, with Pastor Ken Lundeen officiating. Burial is at Oakland Cemetery, Warsaw, Illinois, on Saturday, Oct 6, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Dan Davis officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to King’s Harvest Pet Rescue in Davenport.
Gloria Darnell Bloyd was born September 28, 1947, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Raymond and M. Opal (Shaffer) Bloyd. She spent her childhood on the family farm in Warsaw. Gloria later moved to Keokuk, Iowa, and resided the last 30 years in Davenport.
During her child rearing years, Gloria worked a variety of jobs including waitressing and housekeeping. She was an optician technician for over 25 years, most recently with Bard Optical and America’s Best. She enjoyed crafts, decorating, fashion, and reading. Gloria loved and cared for many children over the years, including her step-children and step-grandchildren, whom she loved as her own. Family was the most important thing to Gloria, especially her grandchildren.
Gloria is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and James Terronez of Davenport, and Melissa and Troy Powell of Hiawatha, Iowa; two grandsons, Race and Zane Terronez; her best friend, Linda Brown; Donna Langrehr, friend and caregiver in her final months; and her beloved dog and companion, Sweeti. She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Johnna Dawn and Leslie Michelle; siblings, Alma Hartsock Shoemate, Betty Jo Leffler, Larry Bloyd, and Raymond Bloyd; and two nieces, and a nephew.
