John A. “Jack” Mayers, 70, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, August 2, 2020, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Private burial and military honors will be at Rock Island National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Those wishing to attend should meet in the parking lot at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe at 1:45 p.m.
John Anthony Mayers was born October 9, 1949, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of John Wiley and Roberta Ann (Stebbins) Mayers. He served as a Recon Ranger in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a welder, crane operator, fabricator and iron worker, retiring in 2006.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and loved his many dogs over the years.
Jack is survived by a son, Brian Mayers of Brunswick, Maine; a daughter, Melissa Sebastian of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; two sisters, JoAnn Wilgenbusch and Debra Mayers Griffin; ½ siblings, Lynn Bushong, Martin Mayers, and Michael Mayers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Mayers and Roberta Strong; step-parents, Susan Mayers, Robert Lundeen, and Vernon Strong; a brother, Thomas Charles Mayers; and a ½ sister at birth.
