John Joseph “Jack” Scanlon, 82, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his family, at home on Saturday evening, December 9, 2023.
A celebration of life reception and luncheon will be held from Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday December 16, 2023, at the Eagles Club in Maquoketa. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Private burial will take place at Esgate Cemetery, Maquoketa. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County or The Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
Jack Scanlon was born on November 22, 1941 in Iowa City, Iowa to John and Cecil (Countryman) Grimm. He was a 1960 graduate of Anamosa High School. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army from January 1961 to January 1964.
His first marriage blessed him with two children, Michelle and Mathew. He later married Debra Kay Reyner on February 14, 1981 in Monticello, Iowa at the First Presbyterian Church.
In 1960, he started his career as a lineman at REC in Anamosa and retired from Alliant Energy in 2003. Jack was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting. Many memories were made with his friends, children and grandchildren fishing, gardening, playing cards and sharing a cold beer together.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Deb Scanlon of Maquoketa, Iowa; children, Michelle (Kurt) Krabill of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Matt (Kelly) Scanlon of Central City, owa; two grandsons, Tyler Scanlon and Dylan (Alyssa) Scanlon; and two great-grandsons, Jack and Ellis Scanlon. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tom Grimm; and sisters, Lavon Marling, Reeva Austin, Billy Herber, and Jean Barnard.
