Joseph E. Cassidy, 87, of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City.
Private services will be held in the near future. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in Joe’s memory.
Joseph Edward Cassidy was born April 7, 1931, in Michigan City, Indiana, the son of Edward and Josephine (Milcarek) Cassidy. He graduated from St. Frederick’s Catholic High School in Pontiac, Michigan, where he proudly captained the undefeated 1949 football team. He was a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic. He worked as an inspector, and retired from, East Moline Metal Products.
Joe enjoyed traveling, sports, and working on cars and other “stuff”. He raced motorcycles in his younger years. Above all else, his family, friends and neighbors were the most important thing to him.
He is survived by four children, Tom (Jennifer) Cassidy of Silvis, Illinois, Ann Cassidy of Rock Island, Illinois, J. Michael Cassidy of Houghton Lake, Michigan, and Kathy (Ed) Robbins of Sylvan Lake, Michigan; three grandchildren, Payton Cassidy, Jaime (Donna Innocentes) Almanza, and Ali Lopez; three great-grandchildren, Mavrick, Isabella, and Aliah; a brother, William Cassidy of Rosemount, Minnesota; his “squeeze” (as Joe called her), Carrol Anderson of Coyne Center, Illinois; his lifelong and dear friend, Wade Argo, and his wife and son, Denise and Caleb, all of Coal Valley, Illinois; and many treasured friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Cassidy, and a sister, Suzanne Kinder.
