Joy M. Strasser, 85, of Davenport, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at home.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Burial is in Summit Cemetery, Davenport.
The former Joy Margaret Barfels was born June 26, 1939, in Grundy Center, Iowa, the daughter of Lester George and Winona (Plaehn) Barfels. She married Vernon Strasser on July 1, 1977, in Long Grove, Iowa. He died May 1, 2024.
Joy belonged to Women of the Moose and was a woman of strong faith. Known for sending Christmas cards with lengthy stories, she enjoyed writing. She also loved flowers, and in her younger years she enjoyed farming, and riding horses at the Silver Spur Saddle Club. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Joy, especially her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dog, Mojo, who preceded her in death.
Joy is survived by her daughter, Maggie (Brian Mumm) Hsu of Davenport; step-daughter, Luella Strasser of Marshalltown, Iowa; grandchildren, Cody Hsu, Destini (John) Beatty, Baylee Anderson, Abbigayle Conner, Ashten Songer, Brook Strohm, Krystal (Nicholas) Stathiou, Ronnie (Tom) Blasco, and Anthony Wixom; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kay Weiss of Reinbeck, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; son, Lester Strohm; and brother, Jay Barfels.
