Marcella H. "Sally" Grchan

Mercella “Sally” Helen Grchan passed away peacefully April 15, 2022, at the age of 100 with family at her side after a brief stay at Hope Creek Hospice. She was able to remain in her home until shortly before her passing, thanks to the attentive care by her son Robert.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Per her wishes formal services will not be held.

Sally was Born July 10, 1921, in Dubuque, Iowa, to John C. “Mike” and Helen (Graff) Van Pelt. In 1938 she married Robert E. Hoos of Davenport Iowa and had a son, Robert E. Hoos. Later she married John Grchan of Moline and helped parent Sandra and John.

Sally was a long-time business owner in Moline, of Sally’s Beauty Shop, where she enjoyed many friendships and shared many laughs. She loved her work and continued to bring beautiful hair and laughter to the residents at Hope Creek, alongside her friends Judy Ferry and Dorothy Donley until retiring at age 95.

Sally was a generous and caring person who loved her family, her friends, gardening, flowers, birds, and pets. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or graduation. Sally was always up for an adventure; if invited to “get a bite to eat” or play a game of cards, she would never say no. She loved to read and to knit. She attended Christ the King church and found strength in her faith.

Sally leaves behind so many who will love and cherish her memory including her son, Robert E. Hoos, Moline, step-children Sandra (Robert Lopez) Duran, Greeley Colorado, and John (Carolyn) Grchan, Loveland Colorado, grandchildren Terri Hoos (Michael Rosen), Cynthia (Jay Wallace) Achenbaugh-Wallace and step-grandchildren John and Darren Duran of Colorado, niece Wanda (Pat Hynes) White, Milan, nephew John White, Florida, niece Nancy White, Moline and great nieces and nephews John White, Sherry (Curt) Morehead, Kathy Olson, Karen White, Deborah Schnarel, Frank White, Jay White, Greg White and great grandchildren Evan, Ryan, Justine, and Audrey Achenbaugh, Autumn Whitaker, Elias Hoos Rosen and Emma Marcella Rosen.

She is preceded in death by her brother Donald Van Pelt and sister Marie (Van Pelt) White, and by her husband John Grchan, nephew Bill White, niece Peggy Deem, grandniece Sally White, granddaughter Pamela (Hoos) Highland, great grandson Stefan Achenbaugh, grandnephews Terry White, Bill Beeson and special friends Dalene DeLoose, John Angerer, Henrietta Brown, and Bertha Bunce.
