Born 02/08/1941 to the parents of Delbert and Helen Hein in Muscatine Iowa.
He had three siblings, Bonnie Christensen of Woodville, Ohio, Carol Shepard of Greensboro, North Carolina and Ronald Hein of Muscatine.
He attended elementary school at the Star school in Muscatine Iowa
He attended Oak Park Academy from 1955-1959 in Oak Park Iowa.
He married Karen Hockridge in 1960. They had two children Tony Hein (Diane Garrow) of Muscatine and Wendy Hein (Chad Stalkfieet) of Letts. Robert and Karen later divorced.
On January 24, 1969 he married the cute telephone operator at Carver Pump Dolores Rutz of Muscatine,
Iowa. Dolores had four Children from a previous marriage who Robert called his own. Julie Evans (Mark
Evans) of Muscatine, Sallie Freeman (Russ Wilson) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Laura Merrill (Craig Merrill) of Henderson, Nevada and Karen Brown of Elk Grove, California. In 1972 Robert and Dolores had their last child, Robin Stephens (Greg Stephens) of Letts.
Robert was a master Craftsman, Carpenter and Sawmill Owner and operator. He was the owner of Old Town Sawmill & Kiln. During his life he restored many historical buildings and homes in the Muscatine area. His greatest talent however was his kindness and his sense of humor. Bob never met a stranger and would literally give you his last dollar and the shirt off of his back. He built several family homes on nights and weekends. He enjoyed the annual family trip to the Iowa State Fair. Bob and his family attended the fair every year for over 40 years. He loved animals, especially his dogs Gomer, Dusty and later in his life Gus. He loved fishing but rarely got the opportunity to do so. Bob and Dolores loved going to the Rocky Mountains, listening to George Jones and Tammy Wynette and Pizza Hut pizza. There was never a time when he did not have an answer to a question. He could fix anything and would drop everything to do so. In 2012 his great love and wife Dolores passed away after an extended illness. His life after that was never the same. His laughter was a little less with every passing year. After he fell ill with pneumonia is 2018 he could no longer work. He then enjoyed watching Naked and afraid, Dual Survival and old westerns. He dreamed of going back to work and doing what he loved but it was not meant to be. He was tired of fighting this life and went to join Dolores in the next on January 10, 2024. He will be deeply missed by anyone and everyone who had the privilege to know him.
Bob was rarely seen without his pipe or his suspenders. He loved his grand children and great grandchildren. His grandchildren are, Steve Evans (Diana Evans) of Muscatine, Jake Evans (Sarah Evans) of Muscatine, Katie Honts (Jesse Honts) of Orrick, Missouri , Eric Evans (Dana Evans) of Muscatine, Jordan Rubio of Muscatine, Diana Lane (Zach Lane) of Muscatine, Michael Freeman (Samantha Freeman) of Surprise, Arizona, Kimberly Freeman of Davenport.
